Installed WinXdefender to remove viruses. Now I have over 200 infections! Anyone familiar with this

The program found over 200 viruses and worms, but they won't delete them until I register, which is costly. Is this a legit company?

Do a Yahoo! search on WinXDefender and see what kinds of comments come up.

You may have to run your own anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-adware programs to get rid of it, too.

I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If they don't seem to be able to get rid of everything they report finding, try running them again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode prevents many instances of malware from loading and protecting itself against deletion of its files.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. You may have to log in as Administrator to delete the bad files. Administrator often has no password.

5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
