Why are there so many viruses for computers, who makes them and what is the point?

viruses just seem to slow down my computer and just get in the way, why would people want to make them, is it just to feed there little ego's or something, I can see no reason for them what so ever.

There are many reasons why people make viruses, but perhaps the top one is money. Its also really easy to infect Windows.
It's like a crime. Why there are people who want to kill, rob, cheat and so on someone else? What's the point? You see there are a lot of reasons, maybe just for fun, revenge, stealing money or information from someone else or for any reasons you can mention. It's exactly the same with making virus, just different product. You may not understand them and maybe it looks funny for you but it's the reality. You can't run. As long as you connect to internet, you need to face it!
ok firstly your right there are no uses for them that are legal they are used to steal information from your computer they are made by nerds who think they are superior to everyone else all they are proving is they are as silly as they look when microsoft counteract them they are little children with big egos that think they can cause major problems with peoples computers if you know someone who makes viruses then report them to microsoft they pay cash rewards for catching morons who do this
