Yes. The doomsday virus was one. I remember an IRS virus. There are plenty of them out there. I won't bother looking up the dates for you, but yes...

These days though, virus protection is well beyond what it used to be with the newest processors having virus detection built into the hardware itself and protections overlapping between Spyware and Virus scans.

I wish the virus makers good luck in the next coming years. They're going to be seriously challenged.
