I have tried yahoo security and microsoft liveone update scans, which always can detect the viruses but will not remove them. Now the virus won't let me use the yahoo security or download any new software. What can I do?

AVG Free version absolutely rocks!! It finds, then either removes or places in a a "vault". They have a new Spyware chopper that's pretty good too. (They also have a new Rootkit finder). Go here for both ----%26gt; http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
If it's attached itself to files that the computer needs, there may be a problem. See if you can uninstall the Yahoo software. If you're still having trouble, and before you take the usual advice you'll find here (format the drive, restore cd's, etc.,) get some more expert opinions from your manufacture's heldesk, or an "estimate/analysis" from a repair center. It may cost a few bucks, but it'll be worth it to keep from losing everything that you don't have to by your own hand... especially if there's a way out.
